Meet Victoria Miller

Born and raised in Indiana (Go Hoosiers!), Victoria earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in 2006. Upon graduating, she attended Amridge University and completed a master's degree in professional counseling in 2008. Victoria has experience working with children and adolescents and their families in school and home-based settings and outpatient community mental health. In 2011, Victoria and her family moved to rural Alaska. She provided counseling services to youth and adults in outpatient, village, and emergency services utilizing in-person and telehealth delivery methods.

Victoria's primary goals are to make therapy services accessible via telehealth and to support the clients she serves as they navigate life situations, overcome trauma and challenges, and manage symptoms of mental illness. She holds a license in mental health counseling (LMHC) in Indiana and a license in professional counseling (LPC) and is a board-approved supervisor in Alaska.

Therapeutic Approach

Victoria's practice is grounded in a person-centered, holistic approach that honors each client's inherent wisdom and capacity for growth. She believes deeply in empowering clients to discover within themselves the answers to the challenges they face, creating a collaborative therapeutic environment where clients are the experts of their own experiences.

Central to Victoria's work are motivational interviewing (MI) techniques, which she uses to help clients explore their own motivations for change while respecting their autonomy and readiness. Through skillful use of open-ended questions, reflective listening, and affirmations, she helps clients articulate their values and move toward meaningful change at their own pace.

Victoria also integrates bibliotherapy as a powerful therapeutic tool, drawing on her extensive background in literature and writing. She thoughtfully recommends books, poetry, and other written materials that resonate with clients' experiences, using literature as a bridge to deeper self-understanding and healing. This approach allows clients to explore themes and emotions in a gentle, accessible way while gaining new perspectives on their challenges.

Her therapeutic framework incorporates training and experience in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and internal family systems (IFS). Victoria has completed Brainspotting Phase 1 & 2 and Brainspotting for Money training, allowing her to address trauma through innovative somatic approaches.

Educational Background & Passion for Narrative

Having earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alaska – Anchorage in 2018, Victoria has a unique passion for helping others develop the stories of their lives into narratives that bring them joy and fulfillment. This literary background deeply informs her therapeutic work, as she helps clients reauthor their life stories and find meaning in their experiences.

As a counselor and educator, Victoria understands the critical importance of creating a nonjudgmental counseling environment. In her commitment to providing a safe, therapeutic space for clients, she practices daily self-care and unconditional positive regard while offering support and guidance. She also models and teaches these values to her clinical supervisees.

Continued Learning & Expertise

A lifelong learner, Victoria earned a Ph.D. in Education - Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University in March 2023. Her research on American Indian/Alaska Native Learners' Experiences with Embodied Cultural Capital in Alaska's Public Postsecondary Institutions reflects her deep commitment to understanding diverse cultural perspectives and addressing systemic barriers—insights that enrich her therapeutic practice.

When she's not providing therapy services, Victoria develops and delivers continuing education workshops. She has extensive behavioral health scheduling, billing, and insurance knowledge, along with experience in clinical and administrative supervisory roles and teaching behavioral health documentation and counseling courses.

In her free time, Victoria enjoys spending time with her family, running and working out, reading and writing fiction, and traveling. Her love of literature continues to influence both her personal and professional life. You can check out her virtual bookshelf here.
